Tennessee Football Coach Beats Recruiting Scandal

Client was a high school football coach in Memphis, Tennessee accused of violating the Hobbs Act by engaging in a conspiracy to defraud the United States by conspiring to sell Letters of Intent signed by his players to various recruiters; primarily the University of Alabama. This investigation ran roughly parallel to the NCAA Committee on Infractions investigation.

Client was facing serious jail time if convicted. The Government moved to continue the trial or quash subpoenas issued by Attorney Pat Brown to head football coaches at the University of Tennessee, the University of Alabama, Louisiana State University, Ole Miss, UCLA, University of Kentucky and many others. Attorney Brown fought the continuance and Motion to Quash and we won. This resulted in a no jail offer with minimal probation as the co-defendants were willing to continue the matter. Persistence paid off and our client has regained his credentials and is in the profession once again.
