    Class D felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000

  • Sale of a Controlled Substance

    Class D felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000

  • Manufacture of a Controlled Substance

    Class C felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000

  • Trafficking in a Controlled Substance

    Class B felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000

  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

    Class C misdemeanor, punishable by up to 3 months in jail and a fine of up to $500

  • Sale of Drug Paraphernalia

    Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 1 year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000

If you are caught with drugs in CT, you will be facing some serious penalties. Possession of even a small amount of a controlled substance can lead to a year in prison and a $2,000 fine. If you are caught with drugs with the intent to sell, you are looking at a felony charge and up to 5 years in prison. Sale of drugs is also a felony, punishable by the same 5 year maximum sentence. Manufacturing drugs is a more serious offense, classified as a Class C felony. If convicted, you could spend up to 10 years in prison and be fined up to $10,000. Trafficking in drugs is the most serious offense on this list, and is classified as a Class B felony. If convicted of drug trafficking, you could be facing up to 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.


In addition to these criminal penalties, you will also face a driver's license suspension if you are caught with drugs in your car. The length of the suspension will depend on the type and amount of drug found, but can be up to 2 years for a first offense.
